More Reagan than Reagan

And more courageous too. The God-Emperor follows through on one of Ronald Reagan's failed promises:
President Donald Trump made good on a long-time conservative goal in his first proposed budget Thursday morning, targeting the Corporation for Public Broadcasting and the National Endowments for the Arts and Humanities for complete elimination.

Trump’s budget would zero out the $445 million budget for the Corporation for Public Broadcasting, a relatively small source of funding for programming and broadcast operations on public TV stations and NPR radio stations nationwide, per the Washington Post.

The budget would also eliminate the budgets for both national endowments, which stood at $148 million each in 2016, as well as $230 million for the Institute of Museum and Library Services, which supports libraries and museums. Additional cuts would affect two tourist mainstays in Washington, D.C., the Smithsonian Institution and the National Gallery of Art.
One can practically hear the liberal shrieking from across the ocean. President Trump hasn't even been in office for 60 days and he's already proven to be better than the most lionized conservative president the Republicans have ever had.

It should be informative to see which Congressional Republicans cuck on this, just as they've tried to cuck on Obamacare. It is becoming increasingly clear that they never actually intended to do anything they promised since 1980. It is also becoming obvious that anything is on the table. He may well abolish the Department of Education too.

It's amusing to see the opposition media ping-pong from complaining about how the Wall will cost too much with claiming that $971 million is just a tiny drop in the bucket so there is no reason to cut it. But that's $971 million more that can go towards the Wall and making America great again.

Now let's see him eliminate Hollywood's tax exemptions, as Glenn Reynolds has repeatedly suggested.

I strongly suspect that Trump's work these days is primarily to establish himself as an outsider in preparation for what must be an inevitable downturn in markets, finances and the economy.

Normally the POTUS is blamed for whatever happens, good or bad, but it's possible Team Trump is aware of this and trying to see if they can side-step it.

I'd personally love to see the rage fall on the Duopoly in Congress, such that the mid-term primaries see incumbent republicucks kicked out of office en masse, and then democRATs further relegated to the looney bin of their own making.

971 million is, what, 1.8 percent of the 54 billion "defense" budget? I wonder how much from the "defense" budget will go for the wall?

Anonymous Looking Glass March 16, 2017 11:45 AM

@3 Even a 33% market "crash" won't really hurt Trump in the polls. His voting base isn't drastically effected by the Markets. He cares about the mid-level manufacturing more than he does Wall Street. We could see carnage in NY, LA & San Fran and Trump is in a better position because it's going to ruin a lot of Democrat donors.

Plus, he'll blame the Hobbit. (Yellen) While at the same time Seniors & Savers can suddenly get 3% or more on their CDs.

Heck, a trade war with China won't even hurt Trump's base, as there will suddenly be a local boom in manufacturing & hiring within the States. Iran shuts down the Persian Gulf? Fracking boom!

I've tried to game out what could really hurt Trump in 2020, but there really isn't much. Because of the place they've put the economy, any downturn in Imports can easily be made up in a rise in local production. Local production increases Velocity of Money, which drives local economies back into action. Since they've centralized so much of the Money Flow within already-Democrat voting areas, down turns there aren't going to hurt Trump's voting base.

Also, expect him to be running rallies throughout the Midwest for the next 4 years. The Man might just outright visit every manufacturing with more than 100 employees in a 1000 mile radius.

Damn fine start! Even though I'd hate to see the Smithsonian lose funding, it's not the government's job to fund it. I'm doing what people should have done in the beginning. I'm opening my own wallet and putting my money where my mouth is.

Same with the arts. I used to work in Theatre and it seems that was a never ending chase for grants. Two solutions...if the elite think arts are important, then pay for it yourselves. If you are running a theatre company, then tighten your belt, pay for the important things first and actually do shows that people want to see and charge them prices that compete with movies. Of course, no artistic director or general manager ever wants to hear this.

There is a reason I don't work in theatre anymore, common sense can be ignored when you can just slut your season up to get those juicy NEA grants.

Not so much anymore...I'm looking forward to taking a walk down near Union Square and hearing the wailing and gnashing of teeth from all the theaters down there. I'll be able to fill a sports bottle with all of those tears.

The elimination of the Department of Education would save $70 Billion dollars. Cutting federal payments to states for public schools would eliminate an additional $50 Billion dollars in expenditures as well as eliminate the incentive money that allows the Feds to control state education.

$120 Billion dollars per year.

It is well-documented that the American education system was designed to dumb down the children and is working perfectly, so this would be a good thing. Let the cucks defend the modern educational system in the face of the truth.

The OASF @13: "971 million is, what, 1.8 percent of the 54 billion "defense" budget? I wonder how much from the "defense" budget will go for the wall? "

Just to be clear, the $54 billion figure is just the increase in the Defense budget; the total budget would be $639 billion.

And the $54 billion increase is supposed to be paid for by corresponding cuts in other programs, so as not to increase the deficit more than it already is.

But building the Wall falls under DHS, not DoD. The requested DHS budget is $44.1 billion, an increase of $2.8 billion over last year. And $2.6 billion of that budget would go specifically toward securing our borders, including the Wall.

Remember that Reagan had a working conservative majority in the House in 1981-1982, but never a Republican majority. He lost even that when we got a shellacking in the 1982 election thanks to Jimmy Carter's parting gift of a deep recession. That severely limited his chances of getting real budget cuts. The God Emperor does not have these handicaps at present.

John and Mary smith will keep their home and savings accounts, but Binky and Buffy will lose their Yacht.

And there's the debt ceiling. Trump can just veto it and the budget is cut and TRUMP controls where the money goes.

Blogger JWM in SD March 16, 2017 1:05 PM

They are braying about NEA and NPR because those are propaganda vehicles for the feral left. I have a colleague who listens to NPR religiously and swears that Trump is a Russian agent. God knows what the hell non-sense NPR is spewing daily.

Anonymous Looking Glass March 16, 2017 1:09 PM

@71 I think 3 of those are mostly CIA-fronts and 3 are propaganda fronts. I imagine the regional ones are targets from the States themselves because the Feds screw up everything they touch.

It will never happen, but I'd like to see Trump institute a tax on Ivy League endowments. Crush every power base of the enemy.

WTF? Is that supposed to be a joke? How many countries have we bombed into "freedom" over the last 20 years?

Anonymous BBGKB March 16, 2017 1:15 PM

I've tried to game out what could really hurt Trump in 2020, but there really isn't much.

I have it if the WISE LATRINA was found dead with a note saying she killed her self because of TRUMPS racism over her head

They are clearly trying to trigger the next economic crash,

Do they really want another Holo cost?

Anonymous WaterBoy March 16, 2017 1:16 PM

Overall, a 0.3% reduction in the budget from last year, which Congress will no doubt try to wipe out with their own pork barrel additions.

However, I would sincerely like to see them give Trump what he's asking for in a pitifully small budget decrease, to try to affect the deficit by whatever amount he can. It would be interesting to see if he's attempting to mitigate a shock to the system by starting off small, then gradually cutting more and more each year after people see that the sky is not actually falling as a result.

All we are saying......is give Trump a chance.

Anonymous REAL Libertarian Conservative! March 16, 2017 1:22 PM

Ronald Reagan would never join you!

https://tucker.liberty.me/trumpism-the-ideology/

"It’s not too interesting to say that Donald Trump is a nationalist and aspiring despot who is manipulating bourgeois resentment, nativism, and ignorance to feed his power lust. It’s uninteresting because it is obviously true. It’s so true that stating it sounds more like an observation than a criticism.

What’s distinct about Trumpism, and the tradition of thought it represents, is that it is non-leftist in its cultural and political outlook and yet still totalitarian in the sense that it seeks total control of society and economy and places no limits on state power. The left has long waged war on bourgeois institutions like family, church, and property. In contrast, right fascism has made its peace with all three. It (very wisely) seeks political strategies that call on the organic matter of the social structure and inspire masses of people to rally around the nation as a personified ideal in history, under the leadership of a great and highly accomplished man.

Trump believes himself to be that man."

Blogger Mr.MantraMan March 16, 2017 1:34 PM

Off the top of my head a good tactical move, now the white libs instead of coloreds and women being the victims they will of course being women themselves make the Trump budget all about themselves and forget the expendable leftist foot soldiers.

And I want those Hollywood tax breaks on the block the next time a negotiating tool is needed.

Bahaha.. someone certainly has a good sense of humor.
Honestly, you could take the entire worlds GDP and give it to that continent and within less than 2 years the wealth would all be squandered and the corruption and tyranny would be even worse.
Outside of bringing back apartheid and 100 % white rule there is no hope for that continent.
Two years ago, I would have never thought this way. But,thanks to this blog Ive been able to see complex sociopolitical situations through the lens of common sense and basic truths. Its enabled me to remain totally unemotional about glaring realities.

The concerns I am hearing about Trump is that he's backing off (a la Reagan?) or he's too eager to work with Deep State or Republican Senators. McConnell-ing is always a danger with any Republican. As long as that doesn't happen, he's right where he wants to be.

And, in my opinion, he should push his appointees to toe his line. Why are they voicing their own opinions?

He hasn't gotten to his tax plan yet. Given the way Hollywood has acted, I say it's a possibility.

It's unlikely the entire thing will get through Congress, but somehow I doubt Trump will be overly concerned about threats of a government shutdown if he finds the result unacceptable and vetoes it.

There may be some method to the madness...and that is to make the opposition PAY....as in TRADE....for everything they want to keep alive.
By challenging every single pet and sacred cow in the Federal stable, President Trump may be signaling that he intends to kill funding for everything the Leftist Liberals hold dear, he is certainly establishing the idea that everything they like may be lost if they do not TRADE back those things that Trump wants.
If they want to keep funding for the Corporation for Public Broadcasting, they may have to agree to massive increases in defense spending. If they want to keep providing Planned Parenthood with a half billion a year in Federal largess, they may be forced to fund the Wall on the border.
Trump is basically making trade goods of everything that the Leftist Liberals take for granted as a permanent part of the Federal landscape. Yes, they can be lost entirely and the price for maintaining what they want the most may require their cooperation on the things that Trump wants too.
Everything is up for grabs. Nothing is sacred or assumed. They cannot simply stand pat on what Obama created and refuse or obstruct every development that Trump demands.
Let the back scratching begin.

My bet is that at least 90% of them will cuck out. Note that they voted CuckRyan in as speaker even after a year's worth of assuming the position for Housenigga Hussein. Besides, being the Gay Old Pedobears that they have always been, I expect they will really not want to see any cessation of the pizza deliveries via Lolita Express delivery service. We can only hope that Sessions surrounds himself with some folks to bring the entire stinking deep-state down. Bet that at least as many Repukes are on Soros and Valerie Jarrett's list as D-jerseys - for whom pedophile is probably a honorific worn with pride. Trump's performance continues to impress - note how he flipped the tax charges on Rachel Maddcow so adeptly.

Blogger Dirk Manly March 17, 2017 10:31 AM

If NEA is somehow preserved, Trump's man at the helm should insist that ALL projects funded with NEA money be used to promote traditional societal values- with a stipulation that including any subversive elements in the work will be punished as FRAUD, WILLFUL MALFEASANCE, ABUSE OF FUNDS, CONVERSION and any other felonies which can be discovered. Federal prison type felonies. The paint-with-shit crowd can rot in prison where shit will be the only thing they can paint with.

What would it take to buy an end to racial and gender preferences. bean-counting and set-asides?  I could write all of that in ONE line of legislation, but what would it take to get the votes to pass it?

Just getting rid of the EEOC and all its compliance overhead would have a MASSIVE effect on US business and hiring.  The end of Title IX would eliminate the kangaroo courts in education.  Such small changes, such big payoffs.

@113 Gen. Kong
Before Reagan was elected president, my state health planning agency had to report to the Dallas Federal HHS office for approval of our plans. That office had 90 Federal officials.
After Reagan was elected, that office was completely wiped out and all 90 were terminated. (One I knew, started a new ski lodge in Colorado.) My own state health planning agency was without a Federal mandate and was trimmed back to a staff of less than a half dozen to license nursing home beds in the state.
Ronald Reagan was less than perfect and he made mistakes, but he was terribly successful at reducing the Federal civilian labor force. Perhaps Donald Trump will do the same thing.
